We shot a documentary in Ukraine in june 2024, as a part of the Stafetten till Ukraina -project, for which we also did the social media marketing campaign. The project posed some unique challenges regarding the equipment we could bring.
The documentary was funded by Eugène, Elisabeth och Birgit Nygréns stiftelse.
Me and a colleague of mine traveled around Ukraine for a week interviewing a few different people and filming what normal people are doing and how they are living in a war-torn country. It was an amazing experience, and the people welcomed us so warmly. I am currently planning another trip in order to get more material for this film, as well as another that is in development.

what kind of equipment is needed to shoot a documentary on the go in ukraine?
The roads in Ukraine are in very poor condition, driving could pose a risk and take much longer than other methods of transport. So once we got to Lviv, we left the car behind and traveled by train, bus and taxi.
This meant we needed to have equipment that was easy to move around, light enough to carry and small enough for two persons to lug around in the 30°C heat.
The camera used was the Panasonic HC-X2000. It has all the features we needed in a compact and lightweight package. A shotgun microphone on top and a RØDE Wireless GO 2 lavallier microphone was used for the sound.
Additionally, we had a Ecoflow portable power station, for charging our devices if and when the power cut out. We fortunately did not need it, but in case the power went out we would have still been able to charge our devices.
